ARCs of my Novel are Here!
I’m super stoked to share that the release of my debut novel, THE PLAYWRIGHT’S HOUSE, has been officially set for June 15th, 2021. And, the book is already available for pre-order! Please bear with me over the next few months, as I try my best to get this Cuban novel (which deals with art, politics, a surveillance state, journalism as activism, exile, and family tragedy) off the ground. Your support is much appreciated ❤️🇨🇺

Some good personal news in these tough times: my story collection, A KIND OF SOLITUDE, has been longlisted for the Massachusetts Book Award in fiction. Really exciting to be alongside a lot of great writers, including Christopher Castellani, Whitney Scharer, Ocean Vuong, Nina MacLaughlin, Mona Awad, and Daphne Kalotay!
Immensely grateful and delighted that Jonathan Escoffery picked A Kind of Solitude as one of his favorite books of 2019 for The Paris Review: “Suarez masterfully collides the personal and the political, moving characters and circumstance toward each other like pieces on a chessboard.”
So cool to have a personal essay about science, migration, family dynamics, and Soviet influence on Cuba in the 40th anniversary issue of The Threepenny Review. This has been one of my favorite publications for a long time. I’m honored to be alongside some great writers, including a literary idol in Javier Marías. Ten years ago something like this felt like a ridiculous dream.
Super excited and grateful to learn that A Kind of Solitude won first place at the International Latino Book Awards for Best Collection of Short Stories in English. It’s been a wonderful year with this little book. Thank you to everyone who’s shown love and support!
